Huawei to unveil Kirin 990 in Berlin and Beijing

by Homeland Life

Huawei CEO Richard Yu will hold the opening keynote of IFA 2019. He is expected to unveil the Kirin 990 chipset, just as he did with the 980 last year. The keynote will take place on September 6.

Huawei will hold to keynotes at the same time, one in Berlin and the other in Beijing. The keynote in Berlin will be under the slogan “Rethink Evolution”, and the theme of the second one is “Reconstruction”.

The Kirin 990 should have an integrated 5G modem, which will make Huawei self-sufficient in terms of 5G. This is just a rumor though, but even if it turns out wrong, we expect 5G to be a key part of Huawei’s keynote.

All this is just foundation for the unveiling of the Huawei Mate 30 series, which are coming on September 19. Huawei is definitely planning to influence European carriers to include it into the 5G rollout.

The new chipset will be built on a 7nm process. It may also become the first chipset to use Cortex-A77 cores which should boost the performance by up to 20%. Rumors also say the new GPU will be 50% more power efficient and that 990 will become the first Kirin chipset capable of 4K/60 video capture.
