Four Xiaomi phones in works with Samsung’s 108MP camera

by Homeland Life

Last month Samsung announced a smartphone camera with the highest resolution ever, the huge 1/1.33″ 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX. Xiaomi has already announced that it will be the first company to use this sensor in an actual device. So far, rumors pointed towards the Mi Mix 4 being such a device.

However, it seems that Xiaomi has bigger plans. The Mi Mix 4 will presumably not be the only company’s phone with the new 108MP main camera. Xiaomi will, in fact, produce, four of them, with the codenames “tucana”, “draco”, “umi”, and “cmi”.

Mi Gallery app has added support for viewing 108MP photos in full resolution, but this is specifically meant for those four devices. This is exactly why we believe that these four would all be sporting the 108MP sensor. They’ll be capable of capturing 108MP photos as well. This is not recommended though, as the ISOCELL Bright HMX uses a quad Bayer filter. It is then meant to capture 27MP photos with pixel binning.

The same source has in the past identified two Xiaomi phones that would employ pop-up selfie cameras, which turned out to be the Redmi K20/Mi 9T and Redmi K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro. This whole rumor is based on the gallery app’s ability to view 108MP photos, which in itself isn’t that solid of proof at all.
